Chloe and I packed this weekend with back to back activities. We started off Saturday at a pop-up restaurant on the roof of Eataly, called Baita. It’s meant to embody the look and feel of the Italian alps – the name of the restaurant comes from the Piemontese word for small ski lodge. The restaurant is decked out in festive holiday decor. There are wool blankets draping the backs of the chairs and garland hangs from the ceiling. Even though it has been unseasonably warm this winter, Baita managed to make us feel the holiday spirit.
This may come as no surprise, but I love any excuse to get dressed up. This weekend was the annual FIDF gala that I mentioned a few months back. The invitation called for black tie so I had a lot of fun trying on a few dresses before I finally settled on this sparkly number from Theia.
One of my best friends, Evin, came over early in the evening, and we both had our hair and makeup done at my apartment by Glamsquad, an on-demand, in-home beauty provider. Our stylists, Maggie, Mike, and Isabel, arrived just before 7 to beautify us for the event. Of course, when Mike asked me what kind of look I wanted for the night, I handed him a photo of my girl crush, Olivia Palermo, and simply told him, “This.” Any picture of Olivia always speaks a thousand words.
Has anyone else noticed it’s December, and it’s still 50° outside? It’s more than a little bizarre! Getting dressed the past few days has been a bit of a struggle. There’s nothing I hate more than being cold, so I tend to lean more towards bundling up whenever in doubt.
I got this deliciously soft winter white turtleneck on sale at Saks at the end of last winter and only got to wear it once before the weather warmed up this spring. I finally got the chance to break it out again this weekend for brunch with my family and Alec.
In today’s fast fashion world, it’s easy to buy something that will quickly fall out of favor. Whenever I fall hopelessly, desperately in love with an item I find online or in a store, I’ve given myself a rule that I must abide by: wait three weeks. If I am still pining for this object by that point in time and something else hasn’t yet caught my eye, I am safe to buy whatever it was I so desired (within reason).
Diane Keaton knows her stuff. There is absolutely nothing more chic and cozy than being cuddled up in a cashmere turtleneck when it starts to get chilly out (this one happens to be my favorite). Pair that with some flared jeans and BAM! You’ve got one fabulous, fashionable outfit. To top it off, I’m wearing all black?! I think MK and Ashley would be pretty proud of this one.
I had to share this dress on the blog because it was an absolute STEAL. I saw a girl at my office wearing it with a cute pair of oxfords and was so thrilled when she told me she got it at Zara. I went online right away to order it and got the same one for both my sisters, too!
